This half term our topic is 'The World is a Rainbow'. The children will be talking about how our world is special including seasonal changes. They will be exploring change through a variety of activities such as going on a Autumn walk and observing changes in the environment. They will use different media to record their findings, observational drawings using paint, collage materials and crayon. Making Autumn shakers, exploring how the different items change the sound of the shakers.
In maths we are looking at shapes, patterns and textures. The children will use fabric, paper, collage material and natural resources to make patterns. We will be looking at, naming and identifying 2D shapes. The children will be able to identify their properties and talk about how they differ, can they find any in Foundation Stage or at home? We will also be learning a 'shape song' to help us to remember.
Communication and Language is still an ongoing focus and the children have opportunities to talk to each other and the Foundation Stage staff in large groups, keyworker groups, small groups and 1:1. We will be focusing on books which encourage working together and being a kind friend. Some of the books we will focus on this half term, include 'The Selfish Crocodile', 'Wide Awake Hedgehog' and The Very Helpful Hedgehog 'by Rosie Wellesley.
As with Autumn 1 daily phonics sessions will continue with the children progressing from Phase 1 to Phase 3. By doing this children will practise their blending skills in readiness for their reading and writing.
In P.E. the children will continue their Monday and Tuesday afternoon sessions with Connor and Mr Finlay developing their spatial awareness through team games linking to colour recognition. They will also practise ball skills including throwing, catching and rolling. The children also have opportunities to access our outdoor provision everyday mastering their climbing and balancing skills.
As part of our 'Understanding of the World' the children will develop their knowledge of seasonal changes, hibernation, light and dark. They will look at the different religions celebrated during this time including Hanukkah and Christmas. Mr Gobey and Mrs Goodman will share with the children their experiences and talk about how they celebrate.
