Food for Thought
At Phoenix Primary School, cookery and food education play an important role in developing pupils’ independence, wellbeing and life skills. We work closely with Food for Thought Schools to provide high-quality, hands-on experiences that bring learning to life and support both curriculum and personal development.
Through cookery workshops linked to our Design and Technology curriculum, pupils learn to follow instructions, use equipment safely and understand where food comes from. These sessions develop responsibility, as children learn to care for themselves and others, and build resilience as they practise new skills and overcome challenges.
Our partnership also extends beyond the classroom. Family Cookery programmes run after school bring children and their families together, strengthening relationships, promoting kindness and supporting healthy habits at home. Educational visits, including trips to Everton Park Nature Garden, help pupils connect food education with the natural world, sustainability and wellbeing.
In addition, science-based workshops delivered by Food for Thought enhance pupils’ curiosity and understanding of food, nutrition and the human body, linking practical learning to scientific concepts and real-life application. These experiences build confidence and ambition, encouraging pupils to ask questions, explore ideas and take pride in what they can achieve.
Together, these opportunities support pupils’ personal development by building independence, cooperation and confidence, while creating meaningful connections between school, family and community.
