Phoenix Success In Cricket Comeback!

Phoenix Primary School Vs Windsor Primary School

What a match!

Thursday 22nd May will live long in the memory of the Phoenix Cricket Team - a historic win, our first outside and a real testament to the young side's attitude and ability to learn quickly!

There were contributions from all members of the team, wickets from Jacob T and Hamidullah, which helped to keep the Windsor Primary score to 54. Special mention to Rafael in Y5 who pulled off an incredible diving stop to prevent a four!

This meant we required 54 to win - a tough ask, especially against a good team who have plenty more experience than us. Although we started slowly, we did not lose any wickets and fended off some incredible bowling. Special mention to Gwyn and Haryad, who both managed to score some runs, hitting four boundaries between them and getting us closer to the target score.

It came down to Phoenix needing 8 runs off two balls, not an easy feat! The penultimate ball of the match went for four past the wicket-keeper. Meaning we needed four off one ball to win the match - the bowler ran in and released a quick ball right at the stumps. We held our breath as Hamidullah drew his bat back and crashed the ball long over the midwicket boundary for six! Phoenix win and a new cricketing superstar was born!

A huge well done to the team, onto to our next fixture and hopefully another league win. Huge thank you to Mr Rubio for giving up his time not just for cricket but every sport fixture we have attended so far this season!
