Early Years Foundation Stage
Introduction
Starting school can be both an exciting and worrying time for children and parents alike, with so much new information to take on board. With this in mind, we have put together this information pack to help give you a better understanding about the Foundation Stage and answer some of the questions that you may have. We are here to make your child’s first years at school as enjoyable as possible, so if you do have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate in telling us so that we can help.
Curriculum
The children will cover all seven areas of the curriculum through everyday activities. All the areas are important and interconnected. Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving. These three areas, the prime areas, are:
Communication and Language, where children learn to listen, understand, and speak.
Physical Development, which focusses on enhancing motor skills and promoting physical health.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, which helps children build confidence, manage emotions, and form relationships.
In addition, there are four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The four other areas are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. These areas work together to ensure that children are prepared for future learning while fostering a love of learning in a supportive, nurturing environment.
Applying for our foundation stage To enquire about a place in Nursery please call us at 0151 228 3831 or come into the office to speak to a member of the team. We are currently a 15-hour nursery and only have an afternoon session. These run from 12:15-15:15.
After applying, we will complete a home visit to ensure a smooth transition into our foundation stage. Transition is an important part of helping your child succeed and this may look different for every child.
To enquire about a place in Reception please apply through the local authority. https://liverpool.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-admissions/
Please note that we may have a waiting list at the time of application but we will aim to get your child started as soon as possible.
Home Visits
Home visits helps us to meet your child in an environment that is more comfortable for them. A member of our team will play games with your child so that they have a familiar face when they start. Whilst this is happening we will talk to the parents/carers about the child’s likes and dislikes, their food habits and get to know your child better to make the transition as smooth as possible. We also ask for any information regarding allergies and additional support your child may require.
Snack
We encourage a weekly donation to help us buy healthy and exciting snacks for your child. We aim to foster independence and encourage children to try new things. Your donation greatly helps us to achieve this.
Nursery – 50p per week
Reception - £1 per week
