Our School
About Us
Phoenix Primary School is a welcoming and inclusive one-form entry community primary school serving children aged 3–11. At the heart of the school is a commitment to ensuring that every child feels safe, valued and inspired to achieve their full potential. The school motto, “Where we rise to the challenge,” reflects the determination of pupils, staff and families to overcome obstacles, celebrate success and develop a lifelong love of learning. Phoenix is proud of its diverse community and works closely with families to create a nurturing and supportive environment where every child is known, respected and encouraged to succeed. The school's core values of resilience, responsibility, kindness and ambition underpin all aspects of school life and help pupils develop into confident, caring and independent learners.
A key part of the school's approach to personal development is its commitment to OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), which transforms playtimes into rich learning experiences. Through high-quality outdoor play opportunities, children are encouraged to explore, create, collaborate, problem-solve and take appropriate risks in a safe and purposeful environment. OPAL helps pupils develop resilience, strengthens social skills, promotes positive behaviour and supports their overall wellbeing.
Phoenix also embraces the Thrive Approach, placing children's emotional health and wellbeing at the centre of school life. Thrive supports pupils in developing emotional resilience, self-esteem, positive relationships and the skills needed to manage their feelings effectively. By providing a caring and nurturing environment where children's social and emotional needs are understood and supported, Phoenix ensures that all pupils feel safe, connected and ready to learn. Combined with the school's inclusive ethos, dedicated staff team and strong partnerships with families, Thrive helps every child flourish both academically and personally.
Together, the school's values, OPAL play opportunities and Thrive approach create a vibrant learning community where children are encouraged to achieve their best, develop confidence and character, and become compassionate, ambitious individuals who are ready to make a positive contribution to the wider world.
