Mapping our world

 

Key objectives

 

At the end of this activity pupils will be able to:

•  recognise that a map is a globe flattened.

•  explain what happens to the shapes of different land masses when the globe is flattened to produce a map.

•  explain how a map allows us to see all of the world at once.

•  identify the continents of the world.

 

 

Key objectives

 

At the end of this activity pupils will be able to:

  • explain which types of features can be seen on a world map or globe, and why certain other features are not recorded.

 

Key objectives

 

At the end of this activity pupils will be able to:

•  give increasingly accurate estimates of where ‘the other side of the world’ is.

•  suggest places in the world where a particular environment type is likely to be found.
