What Your Child Is Learning

Spring 1: What we are studying

Dear Parents/Carers,


Thank you for your continued support over the last term, and it is my great pleasure to inform you that all of the children have made good progress over the last term. I hope we can count on your support throughout the year. Please ensure your child is reading every night, practising their times tables and division facts and practising their handwriting every night for half an hour in total. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me or any of the Year 6 staff.




The first topic of this half term will be , balanced and unbalanced arguments. The children will use Talk 4 Writing writing strategies to help improve their understanding of the genre. They will learn to debate, by addressing this to school uniform, and then applying this across the curriculum. 


Secondly, we will look at suspense and tension, in narrative. Exploring a variety techniques used to create atmosphere, such as: Dual narrative, writing with our senses and use of effective punctuation. 




The class will be studying the following objectives: 


  • Problem solving using Multiplication and Division
  • Primes, Multiples and Factors 
  • Mental calculations 
  • Order of operations 
  • Rounding 
  • Multiplying and dividing numbers by 10,100 and 1000
  • Fractions, Decimals and Percentages




We will be continuing with our Crime and Punishment topic, beginning to compare across time periods and studying global patterns.




Animals Including Humans and Evolution 




Leaders and Sikhism 






Art and Design 


Designing and alternative school uniform, using the design, prototype and product stage.
