Phoenix Primary School ‘Where We Rise to the Challenge’

Spring

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back and happy new year! Let’s make 2018 a positive, successful year.

Maths

This half term, we are furthering our understanding of measurement. We will be exploring the different equipment needed to measure and comparing units of measure. We will also be converting one unit of measure into another, for example, cm à m. Please support your child at home by measuring heights, lengths, weight, temperature and capacity.

English

We are using the book ‘The Tin Forest’ as our class text this half term. We will be producing a variety of writing using this book such as setting descriptions, letters and reports. We will also be comparing this book with another ‘The Varmints’. Continue to support your child with their spelling and reading by reading each night and filling out their home reader.

Theme

We are travelling across the globe this half term and exploring Australia! We will be looking at all things ‘Ozzy as we learn about their climate, animals, artwork and culture. Can your child locate Australia on a world map?

Science and R.E.

Mrs Evans will continue to teach both these subjects this half term as we continue to look at Materials in Science and different traditions in R.E.

It is very important that you continue to support your child in reading, writing and maths. Ensuring that your child reads for as little as 10 minutes each evening has a massive impact on their learning. Along with this, support through spelling practise ensures consolidation of taught spelling patterns in school.

Thank you and best wishes,

Miss Morris, Mrs Bentley, Mr Preston and Mrs Evans
