P4C stands for Philosophy for Children. In an age of instant information it is important that our children learn to consider, discuss and weigh up the information they receive.
P4C at Phoenix is an integral part of our learning.
Learning in P4C is based on the 4C’s
Caring
Creative
Critical
Collaborative.
Each half term classes have a goal based on one of the 4C’s to encourage them to gradually build their ability to think, discuss and form new ideas throughout their time in Phoenix.
Although P4C is sometimes taught as a stand alone lesson, to help us to build our thinking and discussion skills, it is an integral part of the curriculum and is often used to enhance other curriculum areas. For example it can be used in Literacy to help children to understand the motivation of characters in their class text.
