The story of science floor books at Phoenix.

During the school year 2017-18 we decided to pilot floor books in science. Year 1 and Year 6 left the exercise books behind and started their floor book journey. There was positive feedback from staff and children with the overwhelming sense that the floor books were "opening up" science and enabling children to be proud of their science work in a way they hadn't when using A4 lined paper!

"We love our floor books. We can put all our science work in them and keep looking at them." Year 1 child.

In September 2018 we decided that all classes should adopt the floor book for science! Class 7, Year 1 and Year 2 have a class floor book with all KS 2 classes having four books per class. 

Staff have commented on the enthusiasm the children have for the floor books. The staff are encouraged to use mixed ability groups which has been aided by the use of the floor book. 

"The children love the science floor books, they are really proud and protective of them and enjoy looking at them in the class." Year 5 teacher.

"I was the group writer for the digestive investigation and Jade was the science lead for our group. I did the writing and the labelling." Year 3 child.
