KS1 MATBALL COMPETITION 14TH JAN. 2020

KS1 MATBALL COMPETITION

Thursday 14th Jan, 2020.

On Thursday 14th January, 2020, some Year 2 children attended at Fazakerley High School to take part in an Inter School Matball Competition. The children have played Matball previously, as it is part of the KS1 PE Curriculum.

In a Group with three other Schools, Phoenix won one game and lost two, which unfortunately, was not enough to progress to the semi- finals.

However, the children did really well and were unlucky to lose their games. They displayed some good sending and receiving skills and excellent teamwork throughout.

Well done all.

Year 5 Volleyball Development Day, Wednesday 8th January, 2020 @ Toxteth Firefit, Liverpool.

On Wednesday, a group of children in Year 5 attended for a Volleyball Development Day. None of the children had previously played Volleyball.

After receiving coaching in the main skills of the game by a professional Coach in the morning session, the children then played other Schools in an afternoon Inter school 4-a-side Competition.

Phoenix were placed in League 2 along with Lawrence Road B, Smithdown A, St. Teresa's B, Monksdown A and Windsor B. The results are as follows:

Windsor B - Lost

Smithdown A - Lost

Lawrence Road B - Lost

St. Teresa's B - Won

Monksdown A - Won

Despite really good performances in all matches, Phoenix did not manage to progress to the Quarter Finals.

However, much enjoyment was had, new skills acquired and put into practice and great experience gained by all.

Well done Year 5.

Year 5 & 6 Badminton @ Fazarkerley High School - Tuesday 22nd Nov., 2019

On Tuesday a team of two boys and two girls attended at Fazakerley High School to take part in an Inter School Badminton Development and Competition day.

In the morning session the children went round ten stations, performing different skills and drills associated with the game of Badminton.

In the afternoon session, the children played doubles against other Schools.

In a Group with Lawrence Road, Lister D, St Francis De Sales, Lister B and St Margeret Anfield, Phoenix won enough matches to progress to the Quarter Finals (QF). This was brilliant in itself.

In the QF, the children played Lister C and narrowly lost.

However, the children were all brilliant on the day and having never played Badminton before, their improvement in terms of skill and confidence was there for all to see.

Well done to Amber, Anais, Meron and Mohamed.

Year 3 & 4 Girls Football Competition at Holly Lodge Girls College on Friday 18th October, 2019.

On Friday a team of girls attended at Holly Lodge to take part in an Inter School Girls Football competition.

In a Group with four other Schools, Phoenix did themselves proud in every game - losing three and drawing one. Unfortunately, this was not enough to progress to the semi- finals.

However, much fun was had and skills acquired and practised.

Well done all.

Olympic Athlete visit

Olympic Athlete Visit, Thursday 17th October, 2019

On Thursday we were visited in School by Olympic Bronze medallist - 400m and 800m European, World Championship and Commonwealth Games winner - Athlete Marilyn Okoro.

Marilyn talked to the children about her childhood and how she started out in Athletics and told stories of her many successes and failures in her chosen events. She also talked about having confidence in your own ability, having resilience, working hard and never giving up. She was a truly inspirational figure for the children to meet.

Throughout the day Marilyn also ran Athletic workshops for the children and happily posed for photographs and signed many autographs.

Thank you Marilyn. We all thoroughly enjoyed having you as a guest in our School and we will all be wishing you well in your quest to qualify for the GB squad for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
